Nine teenagers have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old South Carolina teen, Trey Dean Wright of Johnsonville, in the shooting that “resulted from an argument over a girl,” according to local authorities. Wright was killed on June 24, and authorities say the fatal incident was partially video-recorded by one of the suspects. The 16-year-old’s family is struggling to understand how such a senseless and tragic crime occurred.

Investigators now say that Raper had help and has arrested several other teenagers in the weeks since the shooting death. Raper, who is also from Conway, allegedly had several others help lure Wright to a pre-determined location where he shot and killed him, knowing that Raper was armed and had threatened Wright earlier that day.

Wright’s mother told Fox News Digital that ongoing legal proceedings are only exacerbating her pain. “All this court hearing and bond court and stuff is driving me crazy,” Wright’s mother, Ashley Lindsey, said. “I don’t even have time to sit down and think half the time, on top of losing my precious baby.”

South Carolina prosecutors can charge teenagers as adults in violent crimes, and Florence County officials say that five of the suspects in this case are being charged as adults. “The hand of one being the hand of all is part of South Carolina law as well, so that’s the basis of the charge for each of those individuals,” Major Michael Nunn of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office told WBTW-TV.

Sheriff T.J. Joye of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office has said that the shooting was the result of a personal feud stemming from a romantic rivalry. “They had issues with each other, and it was over a female,” Sheriff T.J. Joye said. “The sad thing is, you got a 16-year-old that lost his life. You’ve got a 19-year-old who is going to be in jail the rest of his life. Over what?”

Raper faces charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and is being held without bond. Kendall is also being held without bond, on a murder charge. Belviso and Kearns each posted $20,000 surety bonds last week.
